About Us

Our Original Bee Story

Hi! My name is Neil. I have been fascinated with honeybees ever since I was a kid, and I have been reading up on how they function for well over a decade. I always had an interest in getting a hive someday, but the initial setup seemed all too overwhelming; How many boxes do I need on my hive? Are hives all universally sized? Where do I order thousands of bees? etc.

This interest finally turned into a calling in 2023, when a swarm of honeybees landed in our backyard, right at eye level. While I was unsuccessful in convincing the swarm to stick around and move into a large igloo cooler, and despite getting stung in the face, the hands-on interaction was an incredible experience.  It was a sign that it was time to jump headfirst into the art of beekeeping. I reached out to some local online groups about how to get started, and a beekeeper in Southern Maryland reached out to help get me started and mentor me along the way.

I bought my first bee package in April 2024, and through a little trial and error,  successfully overwintered them into the 2025 season, where I was able to do a 3 way split and create 3 very strong colonies! We have since added two additional packages of bees for a total of five different hives!

My wife Vita has also become intrigued with the practice of keeping bees, and has been incredibly supportive and integral to this operation.

Additional Background/Fun Facts About Me

In addition to beekeeping, some of my interests include collecting and repairing classic cars, collecting and repairing vintage audio/video equipment, and traveling with my wife and two girls.

I have a tendency to look for and collect somewhat ordinary--but unusually optioned--cars. My two favorites probably have to be my talking five speed two door Lebaron coupe with all-digital gauges, and my very rare five speed two door GMC Yukon GT (an incredibly common truck platform with a very uncommon transmission, trim, and body combination. Both of these cars would be unassuming to the average person, but difficult if not almost impossible to replace.

I studied electrical engineering in college, and I currently daylight as a lidar operator/surveyor.

I also have my amateur radio license, an FAA Part 107 drone license, and I am learning to fly single engine planes as time allows.
